MY King

* please forgive me for not knowing who the photographer of this beautiful photo is

Untitled
African King of ebony skin, over the moon and through the stars and galaxies I would fly through to reach you. Your shoulders are broader than the Sahara itself with enough strength to carry the weight of your people. Brown and beautiful you are, with an intelligence that surpasses the infinite darkness or ignorance. You sustain me with your love in the same that the Nile sustains its people. When I long for you and thirst to feel your touch, I journey to your banks waiting for you to flood me with your love and gentleness. Baptized by your essence and bathing in you glory. He is my alpha and omega...with arms strong enough to encircle me and all my problems, and eyes deeper than mahogany, every time they catch mine i willingly fall and drown in them. He is the common denominator to all my equations and he mentally stimulates every cell in my being. i want to be your source supplying you with my life-force, come to me when darkness invades your space and allow me to illuminate your shadows with the radiance I receive from the Creator. Through him I am transformed from a mere woman into his beautiful child, your anointed wife. Chosen by him to be your queen in my own rite, by your side I stand rooted, unmoved, and un-phased by the storm. Your spirit has captured me and I am yours until the end of time.....

Release Me

Hey guys so here's the teaser for "Release Me" it should be done by the end of the week, i'm still debating as to whether i want to render it in full color like "middle passage" or if I want to keep it in black and white with shades of grey and maybe some accent color like pink..anywho, at least working digitally allows me to try all of those possibilities so I'll keep you updated!

Weekend Project: Setting up the Studio

here are some of my books that I use for inspiration and to keep me up on my figure studies, getting books and going to the art section at Barnes and Noble are two of my favorite things to do.

The right side of my studio, where all my paints and most of my smaller canvases are.

The Left side of my studio, got some sculpty and lightbox, tons of pencils, my wacom tablet..its organized chaos :) I think i'm going to repaint my mannequin torso.

Close up of my illustration table and old prints from my printmaking class in undergrad.

"Consipracy"

this song is one of the inspirations for one of the newer pieces, haven't started on it yet but its in the sketchbook ;}

"Please speak softly
or they will hear us
and they'll find out
why we don't trust them
Speak up dear
'cause I cannot hear you
I need to know
why we don't trust them "

Love is light

Nothing by Brandy
"Nobody knows that I miss you, Nobody knows but its the truth. I can feel it. I do....
You've been away from me for to long, its time to come home babe. No one can say what's right for me, they don't know and they can't see.... "

"Lay me down" by Tomei

lay me down in the rise and fall of your chest, i wanna be here in this moment spend this time with the one who knows me best. lay me down in fields of lavender and jasmine, when things get so complicated and crazy like they have been. i wanna close my eyes and wrap myself up in you, pull you closer than close my favorite security blanket. protected, safe, and warm...i absolutely love it. lay me down, play me some Coltrane, especially when it rains. lay me down after you've turned out all the lights, i love it when we have these quiet nights. lay me down after a hot shower, lay me down so we can make love for hours...just lay me down...

"Sometimes you make me smile" by Floetry

Where is my heaven?
Where can you be?
How do I get there?
Do I believe?
Where is my sunshine?
Where is your light?
I wanna see you,
So you can make me smile.

The most fragile part of me,
Nurses our strongest connection.
You live in my memory.
With a philosophy,
That now offers me completion.
I’m so well.
And it’s strange to be.
I’m torn by misdirection.
You’re my ambassador.
You personify my admiration.
So beautiful.
I live for you.
As you live for me.

This is such a happy ever after.
You traveled miles,
Now we’re past the finishing line.
We’re starting on time.
My Art wears your name,
If they knew where to look.
They’d find it.
You showed me.
I am I,
Because you be.
Forever.
So magnificent.
The most amazing story I ever told.
So much more to be written.
Thank you.

Lock and Key

"Lock and Key"

I created "Lock and Key" as apart of a series of illustrations that I'm working on as a line of prints and graphic t-shirts. Everything I do is a reflection of some of my personal experiences and dealing with Life, Love, Loss, and Relationships and how these themes reoccur in my dreams. As the series progresses the illustrations will become more and more personal and display more symbolic icons from my personal life. Hope you guys enjoy!

Got Good Vibes

Magnetic Love by ~RockBot1811 on deviantART

So I'm back to repost something I just read on one of my friend's facebook pages. I've been a fan of his writing and we both share alot of the same views on love and relationships and I really love hearing a different point of view. Its always been said that you reap what you sew and that you are given what you give out. This note/blog is about the vibrations we knowingly and unknowingly give out to others especially when it comes to attraction. It was so interesting that he posted this today because I had just seen Oprah today and the topic was about sexual attraction from a biological and physiological point of view.

Original post by Shamayim
A beautiful friend of mine (Cidney Thi) posted a very interesting blogs on why we attract who we attract

If you have gone through your life wondering why do you attract certain people or particular types of people over the years you might find this blog interesting. Perhaps you think you don't actually attract anyone in particular, maybe you believe random people just happen to appear in your life through nothing more than chance. It's definitely not chance and there is what you might say, a mathematical reason behind each and every person you have ever attracted and will attract in the future. The truth is, although you may not be aware of it consciously there is a reason why you attract certain people, your subconscious mind is aware of every person who enters your life and for what reason. It is however up to your conscious mind whether they remain a part of your life.

Everything in the universe gives off a unique vibration, this includes people and no two vibrations are exactly the same. Although, vibrations can be very similar to one another and it is these invisible vibrations we give off that draw to us, events or other people who vibrate at a similar rate. Have you ever noticed that successful people associate with other successful people? Likewise, lazy people associate with others like themselves. How many active, successful people who take charge of their life do you know who spend time with others who sit around all day and watch TV? The reason is not because one person is better than the other, it is because these two types of people are giving off such a different rate of vibration that they simply couldn't share the same space for any length of time and one of the answers as to why do you attract certain people.

The same thing goes for confident people and insecure people. They are not a match. Don't make the mistake of thinking confidence and outgoing mean the same thing, this is not the case. You can be confident within yourself but not be outgoing. Many confident people are very reserved, and may appear to be shy or insecure but engage them in a conversation and their confidence is obvious. Sometimes when an insecure person who may have had a few drinks and has a temporary heightened sense of confidence meets a confident person and has a good time together, when they meet up at a later stage when nobody is under the influence of stimulants, they suddenly feel incompatible. Alcohol or drugs may have the effect of raising or lowering your rate of vibration temporarily but in the long run you will revert back to your normal rate of vibration so be aware that anyone you meet under those circumstances could be different the next time you meet. This is another reason why you attract certain people.

So you might be wondering for example why a seemingly nice woman may be attracted to what appears to be an undesirable man. Well the truth is they may be attracted to each other but seem different on the outside but it's most likely, actually I'd say definitely, they are vibrating at a similar rate from the inside. Although it doesn't make a lot of sense to many of us when we see a girl keep going back to a guy who abuses her, or vice versa. The reason is once again due to their similar rate of vibration and more proof of why you attract certain people. They are probably two very insecure people who have been drawn together. It becomes a vicious cycle when the person being abused continues to feel so low from the abuse and therefore remains in a lower state of vibration. Likewise the insecure abuser is so eaten up by guilt and fear that his actions are the very reason he remains with a low rate of vibration. So when each horrible incident passes for this couple their similar vibration draws them back together. The unfortunate thing is, genuinely caring people who try to help people in these situations are emitting a higher and more positive rate of vibration and often their help is shunned by those they are trying to help.

The good news is though, if you can get your mind around the reasons why you are attracted to certain people by understanding the law of vibration and also the law of attraction you can make progress towards changing yourself for the better and this will have the added benefit of raising your vibration.

So if you find yourself in a situation where you are attracting people who are not right for you, it's up to you to take a long look at your bigger picture. If you can pinpoint what it is that upsets you about someone you have attracted it would be wise to look for where those similar traits might arise in you. When you are happy within yourself and treat others how you would also like to be treated and do so because you want to, not because you have to, the universe will draw to you the people who are most like you. I have used the word "you" many times in this last paragraph and for good reason. This whole blog is all about YOU.

To your bliss,

...Because your W.O.R.T.H. it

Flyer design for W.O.R.T.H Organization's Light The Fire Event
the first picture is the back of the flyer and the second is the front.
I really enjoyed working with WORTH its a great organization that does
really phenomenal work.

A Little About WORTH
site: http://youreworthit.org/yw/

W.O.R.T.H. is dedicated to establishing programs and initiatives designed to educate and raise international awareness around sexual violence in the Congo. We are also committed to foregrounding the global implications of sexual violence against women worldwide by working from individual, community based, and global levels. At this point, W.O.R.T.H. is an advocacy organization. We are, therefore, not currently providing direct services to survivors of sexual violence.

At a grassroots level, W.O.R.T.H. is building partnerships with key organizations in the DRC to address what is needed on the ground. W.O.R.T.H. has raised money for Panzi Hospital in the DRC. Panzi Hospital is the primary hospital in South Kivu that specializes in treating traumatic fistula; in fact, it is the only hospital in South Kivu performing fistula repair operations. Each year, more than 3500 women come to the hospital in need of counseling or surgical treatment.

W.O.R.T.H. initiatives support efforts to address the intersection of physical, emotional and economic trauma associated with sexual violence. W.O.R.T.H. is currently working towards establishing a transition house in the Congo for women and children who are affected by sexual violence.

At a community level, W.O.R.T.H. seeks to organize communities through education initiatives, including awareness raising campaigns and fundraisers organized by students on campuses across North America.

W.O.R.T.H. continues to establish and expand opportunities for you to volunteer in your own community! There is always something you can do and it is never too big or too small a task. Representatives of W.O.R.T.H. will do our best to provide you with information, useful resources and informative materials that you may need to help raise awareness in your community.

By staying up to date through our mailing list and through our website, you will be the first to know about fundraising events in your community. Events will be organized and run by fellow W.O.R.T.H. volunteers in your community (with our help and support) and you can join these W.O.R.T.H. chapters today!

W.O.R.T.H.’s 1st Annual Benefit was held in New York City on International Women’s Day, 2008. With the generosity of our incredible sponsors, hosts, performers and special guests, it was a huge success. Each year, a different city will play host to the big event!

At a global level, W.O.R.T.H. is dedicated to putting pressure on world leaders through the building up of collectives. These initiatives will be aimed at ensuring that voices are heard and faces are seen. We intend on reaching out to Congress in the US; to Parliament in Canada; and to global leaders and activists around the world to ensure that violence against women worldwide is on every agenda and made a key priority. Our goal is to reach out to the international community and ensure that we are no longer the guilty bystanders turning a blind eye to the deadliest war since World War II.

Settle or Not to Settle?

Settle or Not to Settle

Lately I've been having conversations about relationships in which people settle or feel as if they are settling for less than what they want or deserve. I believe in soulmates and with that I guess its safe to say that for me I will never settle. I won't repeat everything that was said in my last post but I'm currently waiting an preparing for the love that God created for me so settling isn't an option. I can't speak for other people but one thing that I have come to notice is that when people feel as if they are settling then usually they are...And yet they continue to stay in situations that make them feel stuck and unhappy.

I think people settle because they are comfortable with the way things are, its very scary to start over and to put yourself out there all over again but its ultimately up to them to asses the situation and see it for what it is or to continue to stick it out. In my opinion Love doesn't hurt. Simple as that, Love endures the test of time, trials, tribulations, it uplifts and stands by your side, and continuously gives in a cycle without ever expecting anything in return. I think there are so many people who have never fully experienced this so its easy to accept substitutions or things that me kind of look like love but it never really is thinking its the real thing. When people find the real thing they will never look back :)

1 Corinthians 13 in the Bible gives us a beautiful definition of real
love: (In this King James translation the word "charity" means "love.")

Love is a gift, handle it with care
Blessings & infinite light
