Rain Dance

My design buddy and great friend Julian Donaldson, Creative Director and Owner of Geniuz Ink, has a designed a tee to help with the relief for the wildfires in his home state of Colorado. 100% of the proceeds will go towards the American Red Cross.
This shirt is a commemorative piece done for all of the people affected by the fire. Being a Colorado native it has broken my heart to see my friends, and fellow Coloradans watch our state burn to ashes. Colorful Colorado will be colorful once again but until then we need all the help and blessings we can get.

In this edition of Wear What When I decided to focus on workout gear because I really need to get back into a regular fitness routine and in hopes that this post would motivate me to go out and get the things I need to get started. I literally don't own a pair of sneakers and the only semi appropriate pants I have are lounge/sleepwear pants. Here's to the start of a productive and kickass week!!

Instagram Glasses?!!

photos: Design Taxi via Markus Gerke

Creative genius Markus Gerke, has unveiled his concept design for the Instagram Glasses...yep you heard me right, INSTAGRAM GLASSES!!! The glasses would allow the viewer to see their world in Instagram filters, snap photos, and then upload those images to your Instagram profile. The glasses would also come equipped with a built-in 5-megapixel camera with Wi-Fi capability for image quality and instant access to your account. I'm really excited to see how these take shape in the market and if everyone will be as accepting of the product like they were with the app.

Necklaces & Braceletts by Dannijo
Shoes by Giuseppe Zanotti

Clutch (right) by Alexander McQueen

Hey loves, so my dear friend Stacie of The SASsy Report is having a black tie wedding next year ( I know, I know its super early to be doing a post about it) and I wanted to do a little post about gowns/shilouette's i'm currently swooning over. I'm thinking of making my own gown inspired by gowns that I loved by Zac Posen and Jason Wu. My first option is a mermaid silhouette; I felt that since I'm quite petite the body hugging form will create/emphasize my curves and give me a little more presence. I also love the notion of doing a modified sweetheart neckline with a hot pink lace inset and the rest of the dress in a contrasting bright orange satin. I paired colorful Dannjo accessories with this dress because they're glam and add so much fun and such a festive feel to the look.

My second option is a black corset bodice with lace overlay and a full sheer skirt in a neon chartreuse. I love the flow of the skirt and really would like to wear something comfortable and breezy since the wedding will be in the summer time. I paired more of Dannijo's vintage inspired pieces with a rock edge with the gown to play up the juxtaposition of the hard feel of the jewels off of the softness of the bottom of the dress. Through the course of the rest of the year I'll be doing more posts about my process of creating both of these gowns and also doing DIY jewelry posts inspired by the baubles from Dannijo...I may even try to squeeze in a DIY clutch post inspired by Alexander McQueen as well so stay tuned!!!

Happy Tuesday!!!

I came across Vera Wang's 2012 collection while preparing for a guest blogger feature/interview for The SASsy Report and I must say Vera completely melted my little black heart. The different application of tule and the textures that they create are divine! Now I know this collection isn't for everyone and some may be put off by the dark tones but I think its a gorgeous collection. I would totally love to wear the nude gowns with a big statement necklace! Vera has done it again!

Friday Inspiration: Amanda Conner

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
Photo: DC Comics, Interview by Nylon Magazine

I thought I would share some of the work by DC Comics Illustrator Amanda Conner because I was so inspired and so excited to see that she has a new book coming out in November cholicaling her work for DC and commentary on how she comes up with her concepts for characters. Amanda is the Illustrating genius behind Power Girl and Wonder Woman to Painkiller Jane and Pro and her latest project "Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre" is slated for release on July 18,2012. Check out her interview with Nylon Magazine:

NM: Was being a comic book artist your dream growing up?
AC: I had several dreams. One of them was being a lion tamer. After Star Wars, I wanted to be an action movie star. I wanted to be a race car driver too. But drawing was my strong suit - and I’ve always loved comics.

NM: Who was your favorite comic book character as a kid?
AC: It’s sort of changed throughout the years. ‘Til I was eleven or twelve, it would have to be Wonder Woman. I even grabbed some silver poster board and fashioned bulletproof bracelets. Then I discovered Red Sonja. When I was in college my favorite character was Electra.

NM: Silk Spectre #1 seems awesome. What initially drew you to the project?
AC: Well, she’s such a great character. I think what I love about her is that she's so real. And she's a different kind of ‘super.’ I’m trying to remember what it was like being sixteen years old, and remembering so much… particularly how my mother and I drove each other so nuts. Plus, I love the original Watchmen. It’s such a great book… Every time you read it you find something new about it that you didn’t discover before.

NM: What’s the hardest part about developing a new character?
AC: Every time I take on a new character it's always something new and different. I always try and develop in my head a rock solid personality for them. Also, I try and imagine a voice for them and work around that. As far as Silk Spectre goes, I’m trying to call on experiences I had with my mom at 16. And I also brought a lot of myself to Wonder Woman for the Ame-Comi series, but in a different way I do put a lot of myself in each character I work on, because otherwise it wouldn't be fun. And even with the ultra-powerful superheroes, I try to bring some flaws and some humanity because that makes them more likable.

NM: Do you enjoy creating the costumes for the characters?
AC: Oh yeah! A lot of time I think, ‘What would I want to wear?’
